The following is a live-stream (in reverse chronological order) hosted by Craig and Pete that took place during the ‘Keynote: The State of Drupal 8’ session at DrupalCon Prague on Tuesday 24th September 2013
Dries Buytaert - The State of Drupal 8 - Keynote #1 - DrupalCon Prague 2013
Some more talk of online training, platforms, Drupal academy for younger people to get involved really early on in their education.
End of the conversation, big round of applause for Dries.
Time for the BIG GROUP PHOTO!
-- 10:08am
Now the conversation has moved to focus on the growth of Drupal in new areas of the globe.
Dries: It's about the people and the leaders of those people in these regions. Sometimes it is surprising that tiny communities have had a surge in adoption of Drupal, but larger regions with less forward-thinking leaders have had no adoption whatsoever.
-- 10:07am
Dries is now talking about how Drupal 8 may make the move to Github. This appears to be one of the areas of disagreement that may have crept up as one of the issues that resulted in the Drupal Backdrop fork.
-- 10:04am
Dries is now talking about how to make migrations from Drupal x to Drupal 8. There is talk of upgrade paths and attempting to simplify this process.
--
Backdrop: Dries doesn't want to fork or split the community. Working out how to pull people back in to the mainstream.
-- 10:01am
Phew! It's touch keeping up with all this!
Klaus Purer - Alex Bronstein - Ryan Frederick...
Lee Rowlands (AU) - Assistance with UX patterns in Drupal 8.

"I want to give all of you a high-five!"
--

Drupal 6 launched from one blog article (!) - (some laughter)
Launch plan for Drupal 8 is much more planned out with video, presentation an other media being produced for the community so that it is easier to help explain the benefits to the people that need to know, especially non-technical clients!
Contributions are encouraged from the community in order to help improve the quality of these tools for marketing Drupal 8, including translation into local languages.
--
Dries is now showing where we are with the Drupal 8 roadmap. RC1 is being predicted in the early 2014 release window. This is when he thinks everyone should definitely start upgrading their contributed modules.
--
There's still time to get involved!
--
Dries:
There are still 3 major to-dos.
1) Make it faster. Performance optimisations needed, but happening.
